Minnesotans Oliver Voeller and Maddison Martin finished atop their respective 12-player 7-9 age groups at the regional qualifier, punching their tickets to the 2027 Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals to be played the Sunday before the Masters Tournament.
Voeller of Rosemount, Minn., made up for a seventh-place showing on the driving grid — where all three of his attempts traveled 160-170 yards — by placing second in both chipping and putting. In fact, in the latter skill, he drained putts from six and 15 feet.
“I feel proud because I know that one of the kids in this age group was really good, and I still found a way to win,” the 8-year-old said. “My dad told me that the driving wasn't important. It was all the chipping and the putting.”
Augusta is the place that every person wants to be if you're like a big golf fan. I just can't believe it's happening.

And while Martin of Park Rapids, Minn., was just OK with her putting — she placed eighth — she was second in driving and won the chipping skill.
Asked what qualifying for the National Finals means to her, Martin was concise.
“Everything,” the 8-year-old said.
Martin competed at Castle Pines along with older sisters Natalie, who was in the Girls 14-15 age group, and Isabella, in the Girls 12-13 age group. Maddison’s starting time was the latest of the three on Sunday — more than three hours after Natalie’s – but, as it turned out, it was certainly worth the wait.
This won’t be the first time Maddison steps foot on Augusta National Golf Club. With Natalie having competed in the National Finals in 2022 and 2023, Maddison has made the trip before. She was very young back then but still has some vague recollections of the Augusta National experience.

She recalls “just a little bit. I remember when Natalie made two of her putts (in 2023), and I loved that part,” Maddison said.
This time around, she’s looking forward to “just having fun” in Augusta. Oh, and she’d also like to see World Golf Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez, who often helps hand out awards at the National Finals.
While Natalie and Isabella Martin didn’t qualify to compete at Augusta National in April, other Minnesotans will join Maddison and Voeller, the Boys 7-9 winner, at the National Finals next spring. In all, five junior golfers from the state earned their chance to become a Drive, Chip and Putt National Champion. That group also includes Girls 14-15 age group winner Danica Hager of Owatonna; Boys 12-13 winner William Jiang of Woodbury; and Girls 10-11 winner Leah Mack of Excelsior.
A junior golfer from Minnesota’s neighbor to the west came up with impressive feats of his own at Castle Pines. Competing in the Boys 14-15 age group, Brody Horner of Bismarck, N.D., was in the first group of the day along with Texas Terry of Austin, Texas.
Terry has twice won his age division at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, having prevailed in the Boys 10-11 age group in 2024 and the Boys 12-13 group in 2026.
“He's a great player,” Horner said of Terry. “He was very kind. It was fun to be in a group with him. … I kind of believed in myself that I can do it, I just had to go out there and know my game and just play my game.”

Qualifying for the National Finals “is a dream come true,” Horner added. “Augusta is the place that every person wants to be if you're like a big golf fan. I just can't believe it's happening.”
Castle Pines Golf Club — site of 22 PGA Tour events over the years — has now hosted Drive, Chip and Putt regional qualifying three times, but this year marked the first since 2023.
“We like to make sure the families and the kids are treated really well, and give them a great experience,” said George Solich, the chairman and president at Castle Pines Golf Club who handed out the awards on Sunday.
Solich personally attends the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National each spring. “It’s just a very special day in Augusta,” he said.
“I think the Drive, Chip and Putt was a brilliant idea, and it's just taken off so well across the country — all 50 states,” Solich added. “So we (at Castle Pines) want to be a part of it. And I think we'll be two years on, two years off (hosting regionals) for as long as they'll have us. I always want to do the regional qualifying. It's fun to be able to put medals on kids to go to Augusta.”
About the Finalists
Maddison Martin of Park Rapids, Minn., the Girls 7-9 age group winner, shouldn’t have any problems getting tips about how to succeed at the National Finals as her older sister Natalie has qualified to compete twice before.
“I used to, like, lean back (on my drives), and she told me to step forward a little bit,” Maddison said. “So I don't lean back (anymore).”

Entering the regional qualifier, Oliver Voeller of Rosemount, Minn., wasn’t particularly confident regarding his chances of earning a spot in the National Finals.
“I wasn't thinking I was going to make it, but I did,” said Voeller, who ultimately won the Boys 7-9 age group to earn his trip to Augusta National. “It's actually pretty surprising — and very cool.”
Voeller has been playing golf since he was a year and a half old.

Leah Mack of Excelsior, Minn., won the Girls 10-11 division to become one of three players to earn a return trip to the National Finals from this regional site, joining Desirae Larson of Kearney, Mo., in the Girls 12-13 age group and Miles Lunning of Brandon, S.D., in the Boys 10-11 age group.
Mack, who placed fourth in the Girls 7-9 division at the 2025 National Finals, now has qualified for a trip to Augusta National twice in three tries. In 2024, she advanced from Hazeltine, her home course, in her first try at Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying.
“I’m really excited,” she said. Asked about her goal for the spring, Mack said she wants to finish in the top 3.
“I'm a really good driver and putter,” she said. “My chipping is probably my (weakest skill). But the other two kind of get me good scores.”
Indeed, on Sunday Mack sank a putt from six feet and came within a foot of the hole on the 15- and 30-footers. She also hit a 230-yard drive that was a personal best.

Miles Lunning, who competed at the 2026 National Finals, won the Boys 10-11 division at Castle Pines despite scoring just four points in chipping. He made up for it by placing second in driving and winning the putting skill.
“I’m just going to try to enjoy it,” he said of his return trip to Augusta National. “I’ve already been there before, so I'm just trying to enjoy it. … I’m trying to go for a win, but I’d be happy with top 3, too.”
Just over a month ago, Lunning tied for eighth place in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst.
At Castle Pines, Lunning noted that he likes PGA Tour player Cameron Young and the way he plays the game. Asked what he would say if he saw Young at Augusta National, Lunning replied matter-of-factly, “Probably, like, ‘Hi, Cameron.’”
Lunning road-tripped to Castle Pines, taking five hours to get from his Brandon, S.D., home to Nebraska, where he practiced, then traveling the remaining six hours to Castle Rock.

Desirae Larson, of Kearney Mo., won the Girls 12-13 age group. Larson’s grandpa John Rawdon introduced her to the game, and she anticipates he will caddie for her at Augusta National next spring — as he did last April when Larson finished fifth at the National Finals. Rawdon is a longtime PGA professional.
“It was the coolest thing I’ve ever experienced,” the 13-year-old said of the National Finals. “I can’t wait to go back. The first time there was really nerve-wracking, but also it was really exciting to be there because I never thought I could do that. And going back, it's crazy to me. I’m shocked that I did it.”
Larson takes her preparation for some of the Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying events very seriously — to the point that she sometimes tries to find YouTube videos of Drive, Chip and Putt competitors hitting similar chips and putts at a given site so she can have a good mindset going to the qualifiers.

A year ago, William Jiang of Woodbury, Minn., did not fare well in his first attempt at Drive, Chip and Putt qualifying as he was eliminated in the local stage. A little more than a year later, Jiang qualified for the National Finals by winning the Boys 12-13 age group at Castle Pines.
“It didn’t go really well last year, but this year it went a lot better,” said Jiang, who didn’t start playing golf until he was 8. “It’s just a completely different vibe. And I think I’ve improved quite a bit.
“I really want to go to Augusta National; it's obviously my dream. I'm definitely going to enjoy my time there.”

Danica Hager, winner of the Girls 14-15 age group, had quite the family cheering section at Castle Pines over the weekend. Two grandmothers, a great aunt and uncle, her mom and dad and brother and sister all came from Minnesota to cheer her on.
“To have all my family here supporting me is amazing,” said Hager, who lives in Owatonna, Minn.
Hager is anticipating a family gathering of similar size when she goes to Augusta in the spring.
“I think they're all pretty stoked that I made it,” she said. “I was crossing my fingers I would make it.”

Brody Horner of Bismarck, N.D., started off each discipline with a bang at Castle Pines. His opening drive exceeded 270 yards, he chipped in on his first attempt and he made the six-foot putt. Those three remarkable shots helped carry him to the top of the Boys 14-15 age group.
Asked who will caddie for him at Augusta National, Horner said, “Definitely my dad. He's always rooting for me, no matter where I go or what happens. It's just so fun to meet new people, play these great courses and just travel with my dad.”
