Quail Hollow Club (Charlotte, N.C.) – Eight area golfers – four boys and four girls – were crowned as National Finalists and earned an invitation to compete in the eighth Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, on Sunday, April 3, 2022, prior to the start of the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
Conducted in partnership with the USGA, Masters Tournament and PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a free, nationwide youth golf development program open to boys and girls, ages 7-15, in four age divisions. The three-pronged competition tests the skills essential to playing the game – accuracy in driving, chipping and putting.
The regional competition held at Quail Hollow Club - site of the 2017 PGA Championship and future host of the 2025 PGA Championship - on Saturday, Sept. 25, was one of 10 qualifying events across the United States to determine the field of 80 young golfers who will advance to the National Finals.

Tens of thousands seized the opportunity to participate in Drive, Chip and Putt this year, which began with local qualifying at hundreds of courses throughout the country this summer. These qualifiers are open each year to young golfers of all skill and experience levels. The top finishers from each local qualifier advanced to subregionals in August and then regional competitions in September and October.
The four girl National Finalists from the Quail Hollow Club regional qualifier are:
- Autumn Solesbee, 9, Huntersville, N.C. (ages 7-9)
- Kylie Chung, 10, Cumming, Ga. (ages 10-11)
- Jenna Kim, 12, Raleigh, N.C. (ages 12-13)
- Mary Miller, 15, Savannah, Ga. (ages 14-15)
Autumn Solesbee topped the leaderboard in both the chipping and putting disciplines, tallying 119 points to win by a 23-point margin. Looking ahead to competing in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals this April, Solesbee said, “I’m going to be super exited, and I’m going to say to myself, ‘I’m going to play on this green today!’”
Driving was 10-year-old Kylie Chung’s favorite part of the day. After earning 39 points and second place in the discipline, her sisters excitedly wrapped her in a hug and jumped in a circle around her. At the end of the day, she was tied for the overall lead at 100 points, but in a playoff, edged ahead of Zada Lee Hannant of Pikeville, N.C. to earn her spot in the National Finals.
In her third chip attempt, Jenna Kim holed out to post 50 points in the chipping discipline. Kim, who recorded her fifth career hole-in-one in a recent tournament, took home first place overall in the Girls 12-13 age division on Saturday, with 117 total points.

Drilling drives more than 230 yards and sinking two long putts, Mary Miller won both disciplines and earned her first-ever spot in the National Finals. Miller, who has been competing in Drive, Chip and Putt since she was 7 years old, was “speechless” following her win. She’s made many memories and learned plenty of lessons throughout her years in the program, noting, “Golf’s an amazing sport. You can play it at any age. It’s shown me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. On the golf course, you learn to be patient, stay calm, and persevere.”
The four boy National Finalists from the Quail Hollow Club regional qualifier are:

- Hagen Williams, 11, Alpharetta, Ga. (ages 10-11)
- Charles Coleman, 13, (ages 12-13)

Reflecting on hitting two drives more than 160 yards, 7-year-old Hudson Knapp said, “My heart was pounding really fast when I hit my first drive. But then I thought about what my favorite golfer, Bryson DeChambeau, would do.” He finished the day with second place in driving and first in both chipping and putting to win his age division by 24 points overall.
Propelled by a drive that soared more than 210 yards and two hole-in-ones in the putting discipline, Hagen Williams punched his ticket to Augusta National with 149 total points. He said he was thrilled with his performance because “it gives me the chance to go to the Masters!”

Charles Coleman started the day by taking third place in the driving discipline (57 points) and continued the momentum to win first overall in his age division with 143 total points. Coleman is from Evans, Ga., nearby Augusta National Golf Club, which will make his homecoming even sweeter. “It’ll be really cool because we drive by Augusta [National] all the time, and I think about everybody who’s played there,” he said. “Now I’ll be able to go and experience it. That’ll be amazing.”
Though he said he was “nervous and shaking” before his first shot on Saturday, Bailey Sutter took a deep breath and delivered 52 points in the driving discipline. His then placed first in chipping with 60 points and second in putting with 47 points—ultimately winning his age division by an impressive 46 total points. Competing in Drive, Chip and Putt has helped shape him beyond golf, as he said, “It’s definitely made me a better, more patient brother.”

All scoring at the local, subregional and regional qualifiers is based on a 25-point-per-shot basis, with each participant taking three shots per skill. Each participant accumulated points per shot in all three skills (maximum of 75 points per skill = 25 points per shot x 3). The overall winner in each age category was determined by the participant with the most points accumulated across all three skills (maximum of 225 points = 75 points per skill x 3).
